The awe-inspiring Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak returns to light up Kings Park with even more spectacular 3D projections telling stories of WA’s beautiful South-West and the culture that has nurtured this cherished land for millennia.

More than 300,000 visitors experienced this home-grown hit of Perth Festival 2017 and 2019 in late summer (Bunuru). Now, Boorna Waanginy is reborn full of new stories especially for EverNow in the new season of Kambarang, the time of regrowth and new life.

Families, friends and strangers will flow together as one through this immersive tunnel of wonder, taking an unforgettable 1.4km journey through the six Noongar seasons and stories of this land. Fire flickers, rain descends, plants come to life and birds and animals roam all around as Kings Parks majestic trees become an ever-moving canvas speaking of the splendour and diversity of Noongar Boodjar and the urgent need to protect the land we share.

This magical and dramatic experience will make locals and visitors to Perth fall in love with Kings Park and our unique place in the world all over again.

The one-way 1.5km journey begins at the Kings Park Road entrance to Fraser Avenue and concludes at Yorkas Nyinning.
We recommend allowing 45 minutes from start to finish, plus 25 minutes to walk to the exit. Pack light and wear comfortable shoes.
This is a family friendly event and can be experienced by all ages. Please be advised that there will be loud noises and sound effects during some parts of the journey.
No dogs are not allowed into the event, with the exception of Guide Dogs.
No parking in Kings Park

Road Closures

Road closures will be in place within Kings Park and the surrounding area during the event. Set up will occur the week commencing 2 October and additional closures will be in place within Kings Park during this week.

Monday 2 – Thursday 5 October 2023

5.00pm – 12.00am: Fraser Ave, Wadjuk Way and some internal roads and carparks in Kings Park (Fraser’s

Restaurant patrons can access Kings Park via Saw Ave).

Friday 6 – Monday 9 October 2023

5.30pm until 12.00am: Kings Park & Botanic Gardens – Fraser Ave, Lovekin Drive, Forrest Drive and May Drive.

Fraser’s Restaurant patrons can access Wadjuk Carpark via the control point at Saw Ave/May Drive.

6.30pm until 12.00am: Full road closure of Kings Park Rd/Malcolm St from Colin St to Milligan St.

Partial road closure southbound on Havelock St from Ord St to Kings Park Road.

Local Residents only will be permitted through a controlled checkpoint to Cliff St, Mount St and Bellevue

Terrace. Access is via Mount St/St Georges Tce or Elder St/St Georges Tce.

Please note cars parked within the road closure will be towed.

A free shuttle bus travelling between Kings Park and Perth Busport (located near Yagan Square) will be running for Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak.

Bus runs from 6.30pm – 11.30pm on Fr 6 – Mon 9 Oct

Goes from / to Perth Busport (not EQ)
Drop off / pick up outside Dumas House on Kings Park Road

Travelling to Kings Park from St Georges Tce bus stop 10081 (St Georges Tc Stand M before Barrack St) adjacent to Council House.
Travelling to St Georges Tce from Kings Park bus stop 10113 (Kings Park Road) adjacent to Dumas House.

Accessibility Information

The event route will include paving, grass, compact dirt, sloped and uneven surfaces
40% of the event route is grass
80% of the event has alternative paved pathways
Accessible toilets will be available at points throughout the park
ACROD parking bays will be available at Dumas House.
There will be a limited number of wheelchairs available to borrow from the event desk.

Assistance Bus | For those who require assistance at the completion of the event to return to the start, a special assistance bus will be departing from the corner of Forrest Drive and Lovekin Drive every 15 minutes.
